In September 2016, customers in Mauritius asked us to design a bus chassis for Mauritius.

The chassis has no special function. It is a product that completely in line with the local market demand after the investigation and understanding of the local market. It is not a universal product.

The customer specified the engine and parts of the configuration according to the local market environment. What we need to do is to design a safe, efficient and comfortable vehicle according to the configuration of customers.

After giving the preliminary design proposal, we think that “The most special thing about this vehicle is that it consists of all the specially designed parts that make up a vehicle without any special features.” The height of the vehicle’s chassis is very low and there is a fixed requirement for the front and rear distance of the frame. For this reason, we designed a special-shaped frame and front axle to ensure the rationality and safety of the structure. At the same time, because of the layout of the chassis and the super-long body, we adopted a 5-segment long transmission shaft and a complex steering system structure.

The practical problems before us are the reduction of driving maneuverability, the loss of power performance and the resonance caused by the excessive length of driving shaft. These three issues will directly affect the safety and comfort of passengers, as well as the profitability of operators. Through repeated improvements and tests, we finally solved these three problems.

After solving all the performance problems of the vehicles, we have gradually improved the applicability of the vehicle accessories. We hope that customers can buy replacement parts anywhere in the process of using them, instead of waiting for us to send them or buy one more vehicle as an accessory.

After optimization, 90% parts of the whole vehicle are standard applicability parts, and when it comes to the parts that need regular maintenance and replacement, we have made it 100% general parts. The rationality of the design to replace the different parts is the core and most important throughout the design proposal.

Of course, it is not only the use of general components, the rationality of the design is also crucial. We need simpler maintenance and disassembly in the future, shorter and easier replacement time, but also to ensure the stability and safety of long-distance drivering and the interests of operators.

At present, we are cooperating with a bus body manufacturer in China to produce a modified coach. In the future, we hope to cooperate with local bus manufacturers to realize the docking of the chassis with local enterprises. We believe that will bring great benefits to the people and businesses of Mauritius.
