The oil used must comply with the relevant regulations in the technical specifications and should also be based on the driving conditions of the vehicle. Select the appropriate type of working fluid according to the ambient temperature.

Generally speaking, the oil change interval of fluid slow should not exceed one year. It is recommended to change the oil every 100,000 kilometers for road vehicles, and to change the oil every 60,000 kilometers for heavy-duty transport vehicles. Vehicles should appropriately shorten the oil change interval on the above basis.

The oil is dark brown and has a pungent odor, and it has a clear sticky feeling when rubbed gently with your fingers. This situation is caused by the excessively high operating temperature of the retarder and the deterioration of the oil due to oxidation.

The oil is milky white and turbid, which may be caused by water ingress in the oil. We can take a small amount of oil and put it in a beaker and heat it on the electric stove. If we can hear the "crack" sound or see the condensation of water vapor on the beaker, we can be sure that the oil is mixed with water.

Iron filings and aluminum filings are mixed in the oil. In this case, there is frictional interference between the rotating and fixed parts of the retarder, and the manufacturer should be contacted for disassembly and repair as soon as possible.

 

In addition to paying attention to the oil quality of the hydraulic retarder, the maintenance and inspection of the circulating water circuit is also extremely important.

Whether the waterway is unobstructed is related to the normal heat dissipation of the hydraulic retarder. When inspecting the waterway, the following aspects should be taken to avoid leakage of the waterway:

Check diligently to ensure that all the cooling water in the cooling water circuit can be delivered to the retarder.

Ensure that the cooling water pipe joints are free of burrs or cracks.

The cooling water pipe should not exceed the highest point of the engine when it is arranged.

Ensure that the cooling system and water pipes are properly ventilated.

 

In addition, the gas path of the hydraulic retarder must be checked frequently. Check whether the air system and retarder air pressure adjustment is normal to avoid air leakage.
