Precautions for driving at night

Oct 22, 2022

Night driving should follow the most important principle is safety first, especially long-distance driving, there are many potential dangers, so today we will talk to you about the points that need to be paid attention to night driving, I hope to give some reference and help to friends who are not familiar with night driving.

1

1. Night travel, lights play a vital role in ensuring the safety of driving, so be sure to confirm that the lights are not abnormal before traveling on the road.

2. When driving at night, in poorly lit roads drivers usually turn on the high beam to make the view clearer, sometimes they forget to turn it off after turning on the high beam, in this case, use the high beam to flash to prompt the other party, drivers who have no intention to turn on the high beam will usually take the initiative to turn it off. If you encounter a driver who loves to turn on the high beam, you should not turn on the high beam, reduce your speed, observe the distance on the right side of the road, and avoid the accident.

3. Night time usually has less traffic and less interference from pedestrians and bicycles, so many car owners will speed up. However, when the vehicle is moving from the light to the dark, the eyes need a short adaptation time, if the speed is too fast, the probability of traffic accidents will also increase.

On curves, hills, narrow roads and other roads, be sure to reduce speed and use alternate high and low beams to alert vehicles and pedestrians on both sides.

4. When driving on roads without street lights, the road is gray under the lights. A large puddle on the road, which cannot be illuminated by the headlights, will appear black. So when the road shows black, it is better to drive around it.

5. Driving at night, due to poor visibility and inaccurate judgment of road conditions, try to maintain a uniform speed and reduce the frequency of overtaking.

When you must overtake, you need to use alternate high and low beam to inform the vehicle in front of you. After making sure that the vehicle in front of you allows you to overtake, scan the left and right rear view mirrors with your residual light to confirm safety before overtaking.

6. Night driving, due to limited visibility, can not see the landscape on both sides of the road, drivers are prone to fatigue and sleepy. When you are sleepy, you should stop in time to  have a rest.

7. If you have the choice of routes, try to choose closed roads, such as highways and ring roads. One-way traffic is safer than two-way lanes. Also try to choose a route you are familiar with, you can reduce the probability of taking the wrong road and unexpected situations.

8. Night driving, especially on the highway, in addition to the usual emergency items, such as spare tires, jacks, wrenches, you should also bring emergency lighting equipment, as well as warning signs with reflective effects.
