Clean the tank correctly to cool the engine

Under the scorching sun, many of us may have encountered the dilemma of an overheated engine while driving, especially when tackling steep inclines with heavy loads. So, why does our engine frequently experience high temperatures?

 

Reasons for high temperatures: External debris blocking the radiator.

 

In fact, during the design of trucks, the radiator's cooling area has already been perfectly matched with the engine. Under normal circumstances, coolant temperature becoming excessively high should not occur.

 

However, during regular driving, a significant amount of dust, insect remains, and the fluff from trees during spring can be drawn by the fan into the radiator's cooling fins. This can lead to radiator blockages, compromising the heat dissipation efficiency and causing the engine to overheat.

 

Hazards of high temperatures: accelerated wear, deterioration of seals, cracking of cylinder heads

Clogged radiator cleaning: advantages and disadvantages of both options

 

What should I do once my radiator is clogged with debris from the outside? There are two options we commonly use.

 

First, in the case of not removing the radiator with compressed air or high-pressure water gun from the inside out blowing or flushing, the advantage is that the process is relatively simple, save time and effort.


The disadvantage is that the operation will be blocked by the engine, the practical effect is limited, this program is mainly used in the case of not too serious blockage.


Second, remove the radiator and vertically flush it with compressed air or a high-pressure water gun. The advantage is that the cleaning effect is very good. The drawback is that the disassembly and assembly process is cumbersome, time-consuming, and labor-intensive. This option is preferred when the radiator blockage is severe.

 

After comparing the above options, I still recommend that you go for the second option, which is to remove the radiator and perform a thorough flush.


Although the first option is simple, its effectiveness is limited and there is a risk of damaging the radiator. The second option, although more laborious, provides excellent cleaning results without causing harm to the radiator. Therefore, this option is more suitable for everyone.


Clogged radiators caused by small insects and tree fluff are common. Improper cleaning may lead to reduced heat dissipation efficiency and potential damage to the radiator.
