What to do if your truck steering fails?
Feb 04, 2023
The first demand for heavy trucks is to see what the actual maximum load capacity is, and to ensure that the safety performance of the truck can be guaranteed while carrying more cargo. As the heavy truck itself is heavier and can carry a larger tonnage of goods, it usually chooses a hydraulic power steering system as its own steering system, but this is likely to cause frequent mechanical transmission system failures.
The use of heavy trucks is complex, and the use of the environment is relatively harsh, in the transport task, the road is far and the difficulty of repair and maintenance is high, in order to ensure the safe use of heavy trucks, the steering system of heavy trucks need to be regularly repaired and maintained, and timely troubleshooting. Here are three common faults in the driving process and how to quickly overhaul them.
1 Heavy steering
When the driver is driving a heavy truck, whether to the left or right, the steering wheel is very heavy and no sense of return, such a situation should first check whether the steering gear, steering pump leakage, and then check whether the steering system is short of oil, hydraulic fluid is clean. It should be noted that the hydraulic oil in the steering oil tank should be replaced regularly to prolong the life of the steering system components.
2.Large steering wheel clearance
The steering wheel free clearance is the angle at which the steering wheel can be turned without deflection of the steering wheel, it is the superimposition of the integrated clearance between the entire steering system and the steering wheel, generally at 30°. Such faults should be serviced from the following three parts:
1. Check the steering clearance, turn the steering wheel and visually check whether the steering input shaft and output shaft are synchronized, if not, loosen the locking
nut at the steering side cover and adjust the steering screw/nut clearance, tighten it in clockwise and loosen it in counter-clockwise.
2. check the mechanical linkage mechanism clearances, in order of steering column lock nut, lower shaft clearance, cross shaft clearance, knuckle fork spline clearance and transverse tie rod ball clearance.
3. Check the steering wheel clearance, support the front axle, shake the wheel vertically, if loose, it is because the main pin and bushing clearance is large. Shake the wheel horizontally, if it is loose, it is because the wheel bearing is loose.
3 Steering does not return to position
After the car has been steered, the front wheels will return to their original position through the return force of the front wheels, which comes from the steering axle. This automatic return is achieved by the positioning parameters of the steering wheels, therefore, if the steering does not return to its original position or if the return is poor, the above parameters should be checked and the steering gear should not be replaced at will.
When a breakdown occurs on the road, you can save time by not panicking and being calm, so that you can solve the problem in the shortest possible time and thus improve your transport efficiency.
