Maintenance precautions for short-term parking of trucks
Jun 10, 2023
For truck drivers, trucks are their inseparable friends. But sometimes when encountering something else, the truck may sit idle for a few days, and many drivers put the truck in the warehouse. Little did they know that trucks like this are very prone to problems. Today, I will introduce some maintenance precautions for trucks when they are idle.
1. Prevent metal rust
Rust is mainly caused by the combined action of moisture, oxygen, and corrosive substances in the air. Therefore, for trucks that have been parked for a long time, the metal surface should be kept clean. The garage where vehicles are parked should be regularly ventilated to keep the relative humidity of the air below 70. Timely remove dust, dirt, and moisture from the vehicle. Oil, grease, or wrapping with oil paper should be applied to areas and surfaces that are prone to corrosion. The pores on each assembly mechanism should be sealed to prevent air, moisture, and dust from entering the interior.
2. Prevent aging and deterioration of rubber products
Rubber products on cars, such as tires, transmission belts, and dust covers, often experience aging, expansion, or deformation, resulting in poor performance and shorter service life. The aging of rubber products is mainly due to the fact that rubber is an unsaturated polymer hydrocarbon that easily absorbs oxygen from the air and oxidizes. At the same time, vulcanized rubber also has a certain degree of breathability, and oxygen is easy to enter the interior for oxidation. Especially direct sunlight can promote rapid aging of rubber. After rubber products are contaminated with gasoline or engine oil, it can cause volume expansion, gum loosening, and decreased elasticity. To prevent the aging of rubber products, direct sunlight and contact with mineral oil should be avoided.

3. Prevention of Mildew and Rotten Cotton and Hemp Products
Cushions and carpets can easily absorb moisture. Especially in humid areas and rainy seasons, it is more susceptible to dampness and mold. Therefore, car owners should regularly inspect the cotton and linen products on their vehicles, air them in a timely manner, and keep them dry.
4. Prevent the reduction of gasoline's anti knock performance
The anti knock performance of gasoline is determined by its octane number. If a car is parked for a long time, the octane number of gasoline will decrease with the loss of light components and the increase of gum content, thereby reducing its anti knock performance. Therefore, the gasoline tank should be tightly sealed and avoid excessive temperature. It is best not to store gasoline for too long.

5. Regularly check the working condition of the engine
Start the engine at least once a month, idle for 4-5 minutes, and check the operation of the engine. If there are any abnormal phenomena, they need to be adjusted and repaired in a timely manner. In addition, it is necessary to regularly check the battery. The electrolyte level of the battery must be 10-15mm higher than the electrode plate. If it is insufficient, distilled water should be added in a timely manner to maintain sufficient power. If necessary, the battery should be charged.
