Could this failure also lead to high fuel consumption?

Jun 28, 2004

There are many reasons for the failure of high fuel consumption. Today, let's talk about the uncommon high fuel consumption failure points.

According to research, the power of the diesel engine can be increased by 2-3% for every 10°C decrease in the supercharged air temperature. Which means, the fuel consumption can be reduced by appropriately reducing the intake air temperature.

In addition, factors such as blockage of the intercooler and tipping of the blades in the cooling system will increase the resistance of air circulation, the air intake of the diesel engine will be insufficient, and the main indicators such as the cooling effect will be reduced, which will affect the normal combustion of the diesel engine, resulting in black smoke and excessive emissions from the diesel engine. and a series of questions.Caused a series of problems such as black smoke and excessive emission of diesel engines.

Therefore, the failure of the vehicle fan will also affect the fuel consumption.

How a vehicle fan works

In order to reduce the power loss of the engine and save fuel, the mechanical fan adopts a fan control device to control the engagement and separation of the cooling fan and the drive reel. Commonly used fan control devices include hydraulic clutch, automatic clutch and hydraulic coupling.

When the engine is at low temperature, the fan does not rotate, and when the temperature rises, the fan rotates, which is driven by the motor.

The high and low speed of the car fan is only controlled by a thermal switch, which has two gears and is installed on the water tank to detect the water temperature. It sends the two-speed signal to the relay and then conducts different open circuits to control the high and low speed of the electronic fan.

Turn on the air conditioner and both fans should turn. But it should be noted that the air conditioner and the electronic fan are two relatively independent systems, which are controlled by two computers.

The fan is installed behind the water tank (close to the side of the engine compartment), and when it is turned on, it pulls the air in from the front of the water tank. But there are also some models where the fan is installed in the front (outside) of the water tank, and when it is turned on, it blows the wind in the direction of the water tank. The start of the fan is automatically opened or stopped according to the water temperature. When the speed of the vehicle is fast, the air pressure difference between the front and rear of the vehicle is enough to play the role of the fan to maintain the water temperature to a certain extent. Therefore, at this time the fan can stop working.

Electronic fan is to control the engine water temperature to be too high, it is composed of sensors, electronic fans, chips and so on. When the water temperature exceeds 90 degrees, the sensor moves and the electronic fan opens to lower the water temperature. In winter, the temperature is low and the water temperature is also low, and the electronic fan is generally not turned on to protect the engine from working under the condition of overcooling and overheating.

Types of vehicle cooling fans

There are different types of car cooling fans according to their working principles. One of them is a silicone oil clutch cooling fan, which relies on the thermal expansion characteristics of silicone oil to drive the fan to rotate; Another electromagnetic clutch cooling fan uses the principle of electromagnetic field suction to drive the fan. Its main advantage is that the fan is driven only when the engine needs to cool down, which can minimize the energy loss of the engine.
