What causes noise when turning the steering wheel?

There are many reasons why a vehicle's steering wheel might make unusual noises. After all, the complex mechanical structure and connecting parts need to support the weight of the engine and the entire vehicle. Main Causes of Noise

Noise at Low Speeds

Are you driving at low speeds? If your vehicle makes unusual noises when cornering, you must check the condition of the suspension or power steering system. Clicking, popping, or squeaking sounds are likely caused by worn or damaged suspension joints. Because they bear the weight of the vehicle and the impact of road bumps, they eventually wear down. When the joints are damaged, suspension components begin to rub against the connection points, producing the noise you hear.

On the other hand, if you hear a whirring sound, it's very likely that the power steering pump is faulty. Check if the noise is coming from the front of the engine. If so, then it's definitely a pump problem.

Noise at High Speeds
