A truck failing to start may not only be due to a dead battery

When a vehicle fails to start, most people will think of one reason, which is that the battery is dead, which is also the most common reason. However, in addition to the dead battery, the following reasons can also cause the vehicle to fail to start. 

1. The automatic transmission vehicle is not in P or N gear.

If it is an automatic transmission vehicle, it can only be started in P gear or N gear. When it is started in other gears, the engine has no response. This situation often occurs when you forget to switch gears after parking and turn off the engine directly. When you start it again, the vehicle has no response. So when there is no response when starting the ignition, first check whether it is in P gear.

2. Starter failure.

When starting a vehicle, the starter rotates to drive the engine to start the vehicle. After the vehicle starts, the engine can run on its own without the starter. If the starter fails, it cannot drive the engine to rotate, and the vehicle will naturally fail to start. When this happens, check the battery first. If the battery has power, the starter is most likely broken.

3. The fuel pump is damaged.

When this fault occurs, the ignition sound is normal because the starter can work normally, but the vehicle cannot start. Because the fuel pump is damaged, and the gasoline cannot be delivered to the engine, so it naturally cannot start. The method to check whether the fuel pump is faulty is also very simple. While starting the engine, check whether there is oil pressure in the gasoline pipeline. If there is no oil pressure, it means that the fuel pump is damaged.

4. Too much carbon deposits on the throttle.

If there are too many carbon deposits on the throttle, the intake passage will be blocked, resulting in insufficient intake and failure to ignite. After multiple ignitions, there will be too much gasoline in the cylinder, resulting in a thicker mixture, and the vehicle will be even more unable to start. In this case, just ignite while pressing the accelerator to solve the problem. Because the throttle opens after pressing the accelerator, the mixture concentration will be normal.

If it is a cable throttle, the failure to ignite is not because the throttle is dirty, but because the idle motor is too dirty. The solution is also to ignite while pressing the accelerator.

5. Damage to other parts.

For example, the crankshaft position sensor, water temperature sensor, etc. Damage to some sensors will cause the engine computer to not receive signals, and it will not know when to inject fuel or ignite. Or it may mistakenly think that the mixture is too lean and inject too much fuel, resulting in an imbalance in the air-fuel ratio, which will cause the engine to fail to start. These situations are uncommon faults and are difficult to troubleshoot.
