Manual transmission vehicles have relatively low requirements for transmission oil, and even if they are not changed, there will be no major problems. However, automatic transmission vehicles have higher requirements for transmission oil, and problems will occur if they are not changed for a long time. On the one hand, it will affect the smoothness of shifting, and further affect the life of the transmission.

Through experience, we have found that most of the vehicles whose transmissions are damaged and need to be overhauled have not had their transmission oil replaced on time, which is enough to show the great impact of transmission oil on the life of the transmission.

Although changing the oil has great benefits, some car owners feel that when the transmission oil is not changed, everything is normal with the vehicle, but after changing the oil, the vehicle is not as easy to drive as before. What's going on?

There are usually two aspects to driving problems. One is that there is shock, delay, and jerking during gear shifting, and there is no power when it should be. The other is that the gearbox often malfunctions, and the reasons are roughly the following two aspects.

1. The replaced oil does not match the gearbox

For example, replacing the CVT transmission with an AT transmission oil, or using the dry dual clutch oil on a wet dual clutch, are all very fatal mistakes. Secondly, there are some minor mistakes, such as using the wrong viscosity grade. Automatic transmission oil, like engine oil, has certification standards and applicable grades, such as GL-1, GL-5, dexronⅢ, etc. The oils used in different transmissions are completely different. Even for the same AT transmission, the oils used in 8AT and 4AT are also different.

In short, you should use the type of transmission oil that matches the transmission. If it does not match, there will definitely be shift jams and other phenomena. In serious cases, the temperature of the transmission oil will rise, which will lead to serious transmission failures, so the type of transmission oil must be selected correctly. In fact, any oil has a standard. When changing any oil, you must choose the one that suits your vehicle. You cannot use low-grade oil on high-grade vehicles.

2. Changing the oil too late

This is because the oil has not been changed for too long, the various parts inside the gearbox have been worn, and the gearbox oil has not been changed. It will produce some sludge, colloid and carbon deposits with use, all of which adhere to the surface of the workpiece and fill the worn parts. If new oil is replaced at this time, due to the wear of internal parts, there will be insufficient pressure and pressure release, resulting in uneven shifting and abnormal noises.

Therefore, when changing the transmission oil, first ensure the accuracy of the oil used. Then, just like changing the engine oil, change the transmission oil on time and don't delay it for too long.
