Advice for managing truck skidding in snowy conditions

Dec 09, 2024

Step 1: Adjust the truck unit to keep the vehicle moving straight

When the vehicle starts to slide on the snow, the first thing to do is to keep the truck moving straight and not over-correct the direction.

Step 2: Turn in the direction of sliding

If the vehicle slides to one side, the most important thing at this time is to slowly turn the steering wheel in the direction of sliding.

Step 3: Remove your feet from the pedals

The next thing to do is to completely remove your feet from all pedals, which includes the clutch, fuel, and brake.

Step 4: Focus

At this point, all your attention should be on keeping the truck moving straight.

Step 5: Slow down

At this point, try to slow the truck down. If the road is too slippery, apply the parking brake at a lower speed, use engine braking, and gradually reduce speed.

Step 6: Press the gas pedal

Gently press the gas pedal. Remember, do not do this until you have regained control of the truck.

Step 7: Pull Over

When you feel like you have the truck under control, slowly and safely pull the truck to the side of the road.

What causes a truck to slide?

Most skids or slides are caused by excessive speed and poor road conditions. That's why it's so important to be aware of impending dangers when driving in bad weather.

In most cases, these types of dangerous situations can be avoided by taking proper precautions and driving carefully according to weather conditions.
