Five preventive measures to prevent your dump truck from rolling over
May 22, 2023
The survey suggests that the main causes of dump truck rollovers include the following five factors:
1. The ground at the dumping site is uneven and has a steep slope. The ground at the dumping site must be level and have a consistent slope. Insufficient leveling can result in an uneven surface at the unloading site, which can easily cause accidents.
2. The ground at the dumping site should not be soft. When a dump truck unloads materials onto a road surface, the material can settle and create compressible spaces due to the large gaps between some of the materials. When the vehicle is heavily loaded, the pressure per unit area is high, causing local sinking and tilting of the contact position between the ground and the driving wheels on both sides. As the center of gravity of the dump truck increases with the height of the cargo in the cargo bed, a large eccentric moment is generated, which can result in the entire dump truck overturning. To prevent dump truck rollover accidents, efforts have been made to improve the technology of the frame and suspension system.
3. Uneven loading of materials in the cargo bed can cause a biased load. If the vehicle is then subjected to movement or other factors, it is likely to cause the vehicle to overturn.
4. Before unloading, if the driver does not strictly follow the dump truck's safety operating procedures, which require parking and applying the parking brake before unloading, accidents may occur. If the unloading site happens to be on a slope, when the vehicle is lifted for unloading, the material may slip and cause the vehicle to slide. During the sliding process, uneven road surfaces and upper body shaking caused by the elevated cargo bed can easily cause rollover accidents.
5. Poor visibility at the unloading site. If a dump truck is unloading at a time near dusk when visibility is poor, and the driver fails to carefully observe the unloading site, it may lead to the selection of the wrong location for unloading, resulting in an accident.
Five preventive measures:
1. Ensure that the vehicle is in a sound technical state, such as the lifting cylinder and connecting parts are firm and reliable, the carriage floor is flat, and the rear self-locking switch is sensitive and reliable.
2. When loading materials onto a dump truck, the driver must ensure uniform loading and prohibit overloading.
3. When choosing the unloading location, the driver should try to choose a flat and solid location.
4. When the driver performs lifting operations, they should lift at an appropriate speed to avoid excessive acceleration at high throttle.
5. Regularly use machinery such as loaders to level and compact the unloading site.
