Daily inspection of maintenance items for semi-trailer driving

Apr 27, 2023

Safe driving is of utmost importance in the trucking industry. In order to prevent accidents, it is necessary to perform routine inspections on the semi-trailer before each weekly or transportation trip. The more comprehensive the inspection, the better. There are eight main aspects to consider when performing pre-trip inspections, which are as follows:

The first step is to check the tires. Visually inspect them for any signs of deflation or debris attached to the tires. Then, check the steel rims for any signs of deformation or cracks.

Next, check the tightness of the tire screws. This is a detail that should not be overlooked. Each screw should be checked individually to ensure that they are tightened properly. Losing a screw on the road may seem like a minor issue, and losing a tire can be resolved with money. However, if an accident occurs, it will be too late for regrets.

The suspension system should be inspected by checking the tightness of all nuts, bolts, and U-bolts, as this can affect tire wear.

Make sure the outriggers are functioning properly. When inspecting the outriggers, it is important to lift and lower them a few times to ensure proper operation. Also, check for any cracks in the welded areas, especially for those who drive trailer trucks, as this is an important issue to pay attention to.

Inspect movable parts for wear and tear, and check for any signs of cracks or breakage on components such as box hinges, latches, pins, and container locks.

Inspect all lights and reflectors, and check if they are properly affixed. Get inside the vehicle and turn on the lights to check for any malfunctioning bulbs.

Make sure all reflectors are present and not damaged. It is important to ensure that all reflectors are in place.

Inspect the braking connection between the tractor and the semi-trailer. Start the vehicle and check the air pressure gauge to ensure that it is sufficient. Give the brakes a test by applying pressure to the brake pedal and checking if the brakes respond appropriately. Listen for any sounds of air leaks and test the brakes to ensure they are functioning properly.

Only when everything has been checked and confirmed to be in good working order should you start the vehicle. Safety always comes first, and we sincerely hope that all drivers have a safe journey.
