ZF16S Transmission Operation Tips

Dec 23, 2022

Vehicle start

1. turn on the key switch, see the instrument light illuminated, to pause for 5 seconds before starting the engine (instrument self-test time).

2. when the key switch from first to second gear, you can start the vehicle, while the key switch automatically back to first gear, regardless of whether the vehicle starts or not, at this time the key switch can no longer from first to second gear, if you want to start, the key must return to neutral, and then re-operation.

3. after the engine is started, the brake line air pressure should be flushed to 6.5Mpa, before driving; the engine should idle for three minutes before turning off, to protect the supercharger.

 ZF16S gearbox operation specification

ZF16S gearbox adopts double H shifting mechanism, reverse gear and 1-4 gears are the low gear area, 5-8 gears are the high gear area.

Neutral is located in the middle of 3-4 gears and 5-6 gears. When changing between high and low gears, you have to tap the shift handle left and right with your palm to realize the change between high and low gears.

Each whole gear has high and low half gears, thus converting 8 forward gears to 16 forward gears. The switch on the shift handle is the half-gear conversion switch, the upper dial is the high half-gear, the lower dial is the low half-gear. Each time you change half gear, you must first dial the switch and then press the clutch to realize the gear change.

Every time you shift gears, you must press the clutch pedal to the end and prohibit semi-linkage operation to protect the synchronizer.

The speed exceeds 28 km / h, it is strictly prohibited to change from the high gear area into the low gear area.

Only when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling can you put it in reverse gear.

Be sure to position the gear in the middle of 5-6 gears when towing, otherwise, the synchronizer will be damaged; at a speed no greater than 15KM/hour and a maximum towing distance of 100km, the drive shaft can be disconnected if necessary.

If the high and low gear shift mechanism malfunctions, you can continue to drive only when you put it into low gear (1-4).

The extractor is only allowed to be connected or disconnected in the clutch disengagement state.

Only when the intermediate shaft is stationary can you combine the extractor, otherwise there will be a knocking sound when combining.

Not allowed to shift gears when the power take-off is working.

The power take-off must be disengaged for long periods of parking (e.g. overnight).
