Truck driver safety issues in rainy weather
Jan 16, 2026

First, if it is a thunderstorm, it is best to retract the vehicle's external antenna and avoid frequent use of mobile phones to prevent being struck by lightning.
Second, maintain an appropriate safe distance from the vehicle in front: no less than 100 meters in light rain and no less than 200 meters in heavy rain.
Third, thoroughly inspect your vehicle before getting on the highway, especially the windshield wipers, lights, tire pressure, and brakes. Ensure good visibility and dry the rearview mirrors so you can clearly see vehicles behind you. Pay special attention to the air conditioning system, as it directly affects driving safety. On rainy days, the vehicle is usually enclosed, and the temperature difference between the inside and outside can cause fogging on the windows, severely impairing the driver's vision. The air conditioning system is essential to clear the fog. Also, bring rain gear, a reflective warning triangle, and your vehicle's repair tools.
Fourth, when driving, always drive slowly, turn on your lights when visibility is low, and do not use the brakes unnecessarily, because the road surface adhesion coefficient is greatly reduced in rainy weather, making it easy to skid and cause traffic accidents.
In case of vehicle malfunction or traffic accident, immediately turn on hazard lights and place a reflective triangle 150 meters away (on highways) in the direction of oncoming traffic. All occupants should quickly move to the outside of the guardrail, then call for help and wait for assistance. Additionally, in areas with standing water, reduce speed to a minimum of 70 km/h and turn on lights. Do not apply the brakes forcefully when encountering waterlogged areas to avoid skidding and accidents.
If it starts raining heavily or in a downpour along the way, turn on your hazard lights immediately and exit from the nearest exit or enter the nearest service area.
On highways, always pay attention to road condition broadcasts and road signs. Some sections may be temporarily closed due to poor road conditions, and some sections may be under construction, requiring detours. Be sure to notice these signs in time and make accurate judgments.
