The brake discs also need to be replaced

Brake pads are one of the most important components for driving safety. The replacement cycle of brake pads is about 30,000 to 50,000 kilometers, which can vary greatly depending on driving habits.

Replacing brake pads is well known to most truck owners. Due to the high frequency of replacement, we often hear about the replacement of brake pads. However, the brake discs that work with the brake pads are often overlooked. If the wear limit is reached but it is not replaced, it is easy to cause danger in extreme situations.

Each wheel has two brake pads. When braking, the two brake pads will hold the brake disc tightly, and the brake is achieved through the friction between the brake pads and the brake disc. So in addition to the wear of the brake pads, the brake disc will also wear. The brake pad material is softer and wears faster, while the brake disc material is very hard and wears slower. So when should you replace the brake disc?

Let's talk about normal wear first. When the wear depth of the brake disc reaches more than 2 mm, it is time to replace it. There is no fixed mileage. If you are not sure about the wear depth, you can refer to the number of times the brake pads have been replaced. Generally, after three brake pads have been replaced, it is time to replace the brake disc. 

In addition to normal wear and tear, brake discs can also have some faults. When a fault occurs, it should be replaced regardless of the degree of wear. A common fault is brake judder. When you step on the brakes, the steering wheel or the body of the truck shakes left and right, which is caused by the deformation of the brake disc. The surface of the brake disc is uneven and twisted, and the force points are not on the same plane when braking, which will cause the vehicle to shake left and right.

Another situation is that the brake pad is worn away, which will cause the brake pad support iron plate to rub against the brake disc. The iron plate is hard and rough, and will soon cause serious wear of the brake disc. In this case, the brake disc also needs to be replaced. In addition, if the replacement brake pad is of poor quality and has a lot of hard and large particles, the brake disc will be worn out with many grooves. If the groove depth reaches 2 mm, it also needs to be replaced. 

Brake discs, like brake pads, will affect braking safety. Therefore, brake discs must be replaced in time when they reach the end of their service life.
