Maintenance of hydraulic retarder, what do you need to pay attention to?

 For any truck parts, in order to better exert its performance and advantages, maintenance is inevitable. Good maintenance will directly affect the quality of use, and further affect our attendance rate and income.

One point to pay attention to when using the hydraulic retarder: keep the engine speed above 1200 rpm.

Why maintain a relatively high RPM?

Because the high speed can make the antifreeze better circulate, the engine speed is proportional to the water pump speed, and the fan will dissipate heat faster if the engine speed is high, so that the retarder can be well dissipated, therefore, the hydraulic retarder needs to maintain the speed.

Because the internal movement of the liquid is slow, there is no direct frictional contact between the components, so there is no direct wear and tear, and the maintenance is very simple. We just need to change the oil and filter regularly. (Be sure to keep in mind that the oil filter should also be replaced.)

The oil change mileage of retarders of different brands may vary to some extent. For example, Voith hydraulic retarders generally need 50,000 kilometers for oil changes, while ZF’s hydraulic retarders can reach 100,000 kilometers for oil changes. Truckers need change the oil according to the actual condition of vehicles.

The oil to be replaced is preferably a special 10W-40 hydraulic retarder lubricating oil, which is usually filled with 6-7 liters (6.4 liters specified by Voith).

Finally, when washing the car, pay attention not to directly wash the retarder filter element gland and other parts with a high-pressure water gun, so as not to infiltrate the dirty water into the retarder and cause the failure of the retarder.

If used properly, the hydraulic retarder has a very low failure rate, and maintenance is very simple, just need to pay attention to the oil change interval and check for water leakage.
