Air suspension is similar to a large leather bucket in appearance, with air spring as the elastic element and air as the elastic medium, filling the sealed container with compressed air and controlling the filling and discharging of compressed air in the air bag through the control system, so as to realize the adjustment of vehicle load-bearing performance and height.

Vehicles equipped with air suspension are generally provided with a control handle under the driver's seat to facilitate the driver to adjust the height. The air suspension replaces the traditional leaf spring with an air bag, and the air bag is mainly composed of inner and outer layers of rubber, cord layers and wire rings.

Although the air suspension has flaws in terms of cost, reliability and durability compared with the traditional steel plate suspension, and is also one of the most easily damaged parts in the event of an accident, however, no matter in the field of passenger cars or commercial vehicles, the limelight of air suspension is still gradually overshadowing the steel plate suspension. Compared with the air suspension, the main advantages of the air suspension are as follows:

1. Good shock absorption effect, which can greatly reduce cargo damage

Because the air suspension utilizes the compressibility of air, the deformation of the airbag is faster and better than that of the steel plate, which can bring a good shock absorption effect to the vehicle. In addition to greatly improving driving comfort, it can greatly reduce cargo damage caused by bumps when transporting dangerous goods or high value-added goods.

2. Lighter weight and more fuel efficient

Lightweight is one of the major trends in the upgrading and improvement of truck products, and its benefits are to increase the load capacity and improve fuel economy. Light weight is a big advantage of air suspension.

At the same time, when encountering bumpy road sections, vehicles equipped with air suspension can pass without decelerating or slightly decelerating, because large speed changes can be avoided, so it will be more fuel-efficient when passing through bumpy sections.

3. Protect chassis parts 

Thanks to the good shock absorption effect of the air suspension, the damage to the chassis components caused by the vibration from the ground is also greatly reduced, the service life of the components is prolonged, and the loose screws on the chassis are also greatly reduced.

4. Easy to connect and dump, adapt to different heights of the platform

If the vehicle is equipped with air suspension, users can use the ECAS control handle to quickly adjust the height of the air bag, effectively reducing the number of times to use the trailer outriggers and improving work efficiency.

Trucks often need to stop at the platform to load and unload goods. The height of the platform in different freight yards is often different. It will be very inconvenient to load and unload goods with a forklift. Vehicles equipped with air suspension can adjust the height of the airbag to make the height of the cargo box consistent with the height of the platform, which is convenient for loading and unloading goods.

5. Reduce tire wear and protect the road 

Because the air suspension is a soft connection, when the vehicle encounters a road section with poor road conditions, the contact between the tire and the ground will be gentler, so the air suspension can effectively reduce tire wear, and the tire damage to the ground will also be much smaller. It can play a protective role and reduce road maintenance costs.

Be careful when using

1. The working air pressure needs to be strictly controlled

In order to avoid premature damage of the air suspension due to too low or too high air pressure, the working air pressure of the air suspension needs to be controlled within a strict range. In general, air suspensions are designed to use 1/3 the burst pressure.

2. It is not allowed to exceed the allowable itinerary when using

Each air suspension has its allowable travel specified in the performance parameter table. In order to ensure the service life of the air suspension, it is not allowed to exceed the allowable travel of the air suspension during use.

 3. Installation and replacement adjustment is harsh

When installing the air suspension, try to avoid the offset and inclination of the center line of the air suspension, and reserve enough installation space, and the air suspension should not rub or interfere with any components during installation and use.

4. Pay attention to the use environment

During the use of the air suspension, attention should be paid to keep the environment as dry, cool and ventilated as possible, avoid exposure to sunlight, and avoid contact with acids, alkalis, oils, and organic lubricants to avoid corrosion. At the same time, the cleaning treatment of the air suspension should be strengthened to reduce the damage to the surface of the airbag.
