The vehicle does not need to be repaired when these faults occur

Apr 03, 2025

Today we will review several common situations that seem like faults but are normal phenomena.

1. After the vehicle is parked, there is a lot of water under the vehicle

This phenomenon is very common in summer, but many people think that the car is leaking water or oil. In fact, this is air conditioning water, which is a normal phenomenon. Water will only appear when the air conditioner is idling in place, and there will be no water if the air conditioner is not turned on. Just like a home air conditioner, a lot of water will be generated as it works. The home air conditioner has a pipe to guide it to the outside, and the vehicle air conditioner also has a pipe to guide it to the outside of the car.

How can you tell if it is air conditioning water or leaking liquid under the vehicle? There are two ways. One is to look at the location of the liquid. If it is on the right side behind the engine, it is air conditioning water. The other is to look at the color or smell it. If there is no color and no smell, and it looks like clear water, it is air conditioning water. Any liquid in a vehicle has a color, either black or other colors. In short, it has a color and looks like oil.

2. There is a crackling sound under the car after the car is parked and the engine is turned off

This is the sound of the exhaust pipe contracting. The temperature of the exhaust pipe is very high, about 700-800 degrees Celsius at the front end. When the vehicle is running, the exhaust pipe is in an expanded state. When the vehicle is turned off, the exhaust pipe cools down quickly, and the phenomenon of thermal expansion and contraction occurs. The metal contracts and produces a crackling sound. This is also normal and will stop after about five minutes. In summer, due to the high temperature, the temperature of the exhaust pipe is also high, and the probability of encountering this sound is greater.

3. White smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe

The phenomenon of white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe is particularly common in winter, and usually occurs within a few minutes after starting the vehicle. This is because a large amount of water vapor will be produced after the gasoline is completely burned. When the engine is just started, the exhaust pipe and the air inside are cold. After the water vapor is discharged from the cylinder and encounters the cold exhaust pipe and air, it will quickly condense into water mist, and after the water mist is discharged, it is the white smoke we see.

4. The engine fault light is always on when only the ignition key is turned on

This situation is often mentioned by drivers when the vehicle cannot start. In fact, it is normal for the fault light to be on at this time, and it is not the reason for the failure to start. Only after the engine is started and the computer self-checks and finds no abnormalities, the fault light will go out automatically.

5. After the key is pulled out, the steering wheel cannot be turned

Vehicles that use the key to start the car are equipped with a steering wheel lock. When the key is pulled out, just turn the steering wheel slightly and the steering wheel will automatically lock. At this time, the steering wheel cannot be turned at all. In fact, this is normal. You only need to turn the key while turning the steering wheel left and right to unlock it automatically.
