What owners need to pay attention to when servicing their trucks
Nov 08, 2024
Due to the long driving distance and long driving cycle, when the vehicle breaks down, the truck driver may not always be able to find a repair station in time. Therefore, in order not to affect the transportation efficiency, most truck drivers will master some basic skills in vehicle repair.
However, the high load and high horsepower of trucks also make them more dangerous during maintenance. If you do not pay attention to the potential safety hazards, it may cause great losses to personnel and property. Today we will list several common safety hazards in truck maintenance.
▎Tire burst
The maximum tire pressure of a car is 10 kg/cm2, which is equivalent to the pressure at the bottom of a 30-story water column. If the tire pressure is 5 kg/cm2 and the gas explodes instantly, the shock wave generated in a short distance is enough to break a person's bones.
▎Use the auxiliary start switch with caution
The auxiliary start switch on the truck is a component that is often used during maintenance. However, when short-circuiting the auxiliary start switch, it is necessary to ensure that the gearbox is in neutral, otherwise the truck will move with the gear on, which will cause serious consequences if there is no driver in the cab.
Although some engine ECUs currently need to receive neutral switch signals, some models still have the phenomenon of neutral switch short circuit, so it is recommended that you check the gear position when using the auxiliary start switch.
▎Disassemble the oil pipe joint
With the popularity of electronically controlled engines, engine maintenance has become more complicated, and the removal of oil pipe joints requires more caution.
When a diesel engine equipped with a high-pressure common rail is working, the fuel pressure generated inside it can reach more than 2000 bar. If the pressure generated is harmful to a person, it will have serious consequences. The best way is to wait until the engine is completely stopped and the pressure is released before removing the oil pipe.
▎Open the water tank cap
When the engine is overheated and the heat dissipation efficiency is poor, the water tank will become hot. At this time, you should avoid turning off the engine immediately (the radiator will also stop working after the engine is turned off). Find a safe place to park and keep the engine idling to fully dissipate heat.
Do not open the water tank cover before the water tank temperature drops to a safe level, otherwise the uncooled liquid will spray out. The correct method is to wrap the water tank cover with a wet towel, slowly open the first switch (about 1/4 turn), and open the water tank cover only after the water vapor pressure is completely released.
