Transporting goods in the summer is risky, these issues should not be ignored!
Jun 28, 2024
In the summer, with long days and short nights and rising temperatures, not only does it affect the physical and mental well-being of drivers, but it also brings significant safety risks to vehicle facilities and cargo safety. The most common risks include the risk of spontaneous combustion of goods, the risk of goods deterioration, lightning strikes, rain damage risks, etc. We should always maintain a high level of vigilance and enhance safety awareness.
Cargoes that are prone to spontaneous combustion generally include explosive articles, water-burning articles, spontaneous combustion articles, flammable solids, flammable and combustion-assisted gases, corrosive articles, oxidizers and so on.
When we are transporting such goods, we must pack them in a safe way before shipment according to their nature, transportation distance and road conditions along the way.
Packaging must be firm, tight, with clear, standardized, easy-to-identify signs, and should also be kept ventilated, protected from light, and avoid direct sunlight during transportation.
There are some items, in our daily transportation belongs to the category of daily bulk goods, but in the summer will also become a hidden danger of spontaneous combustion, such as cotton, paper products, plastic products and other goods.
The transportation risk of such goods in the summer is even higher than that of hazardous materials. This is because hazardous materials are usually transported in appropriate containers, whereas goods like cotton yarn and paper products are often transported in an exposed state.
Therefore, when transporting such goods, we not only need to ensure that the packaging is secure and tight, but also constantly check the vehicle for potential fire hazards, such as leftover lighters, paper scraps, broken glass, etc. If any are found, they must be promptly cleaned up.
In addition to the goods, we should also be careful when securing straps and tarps. We need to choose qualified strap and tarp products, and during transportation, constantly monitor their condition to prevent incidents of high-temperature melting or strap and tarp burning.
In the summer also need to pay attention to because of high temperature, sun exposure and other factors on flowers, vegetables and other items caused by deterioration, dehydration, to do a good job of moisturizing measures, such as goods can be sprayed to ensure freshness.
Spray water preservation method is not only applicable to the transportation of flowers, vegetables, fruits and melons, but also very suitable for the transportation of some livestock goods.
Additionally, when transporting livestock, the animals are exposed and significantly affected by extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and snow. This can easily cause livestock, especially young animals, to fall ill. If necessary, we should opt for specialized livestock transport vehicles that provide real-time monitoring to ensure safe transportation.
In case of severe weather, we need to find a nearby place to stop and take shelter from sudden storms and heavy rain. While taking shelter, avoid parking under prominent buildings and trees to prevent the risks of lightning strikes and falling debris due to strong winds. Stay updated on the weather and road conditions to avoid dangerous routes.
Summer weather is unpredictable, and rain, hail, strong winds, thunderstorms, and the resulting natural disasters can significantly impact the safety of goods. Therefore, when securing straps and tarps, we must pay attention to their firmness. For box trucks, ensure the cargo compartment is locked and checked to avoid the risk of goods being blown away or damaged by rain.
